Ask me about the time I started a magazine
In September 2013, I sold out of journalism for a PR job that I hated. So, I quit and started a golf magazine. Introducing Ace In The Cup, Houston's premier golf and men's lifestyle magazine. It lasted one whole issue, mainly because it was 100 percent self-funded and magazine publishing is damn expensive. I hired two freelancers to write about the best Texas craft beers and how to cook the best damn steak of your life. I also brought in an intern, who helped design the two main feature packages: "Sign here, please" and "Eye of the Tiger."
I handled all the other story ideas, writing, designs, and production with the printer. All said and done, it was absolutely the most rewarding experience of my career. Given another chance, I would absolutely do it again.
